The TMS Construction & Design Story
TMS Construction and Design Inc. was started in January 1987 by Larry Durham and Brad Weyandt, with a focus on fire & water restoration. Larry and Brad both had extensive backgrounds in insurance repair, having both been licensed Insurance Adjusters in the past. In 1990, Larry Durham bought Brad’s interest in the company and began to focus more on high-end residential remodeling, commercial lease space buildouts, and swimming pool construction. In 1992, the company hired Milt Durham, a well-known architect with an impressive background in commercial and medical office construction. Milt brought a great deal of construction knowledge and experience to the company, allowing us to expand into other areas of construction and expand the business in volume and revenue. Milt stayed with the company until 1995, when he retired.
For nearly 40 years, TMS Construction & Design has been helping homeowners and businesses throughout the Greater Houston area bring their vision to life through exceptional construction, remodeling, and design services.
Founded in 1987, TMS has earned a reputation for delivering outstanding craftsmanship, personalized service, and a level of integrity that has generated a business built almost entirely on client referrals. Our primary focus is high-end residential remodeling, including kitchens, bathrooms, room additions, whole-home renovations, outdoor living spaces, and custom pool projects. We also provide light commercial construction services, including office build-outs, medical and dental offices, retail spaces, and restaurant renovations.

Every project is personally overseen by a principal of the company, ensuring that every detail receives the attention it deserves. Currently we have a well-established client base in some of the most affluent areas of Houston, such as the Memorial Villages, Memorial, West University, Rice University, Southampton, Bellaire, Meyerland, and the Heights, just to name a few. While we are most capable of high-end projects, we also do projects in the average home or business, and of course, we offer all of our customers the same commitment to our core values. We work with well-known architects and interior designers on many of our projects, and together we can offer our clients an exceptional experience. There is nothing too small or large for us to handle. We are also very experienced in light commercial construction, with many projects in new office building construction, lease space buildout, medical and dental office construction, and restaurant remodeling. We have a group of architects that we work with who help us make these projects efficient and seamless. We have built several office buildings in the Houston area and are competitive in that market.

We have a presence in custom pools, outdoor structures, and backyard spaces. We have been remodeling swimming pools since 1998 and have been in new pool construction for about 5 years. We are a Pentair Partner and use their equipment exclusively as the leading pool equipment manufacturer that offers a 3-year warranty on most of their products. We have a partnership with a professional pool and landscape designer that has an impressive background in that arena. We can provide you with expert pool and landscape design for a modest fee, which is credited back to the project if we are selected to build your pool.
We work hard to make the remodeling/construction process as painless as possible, as we realize that these projects are difficult and inconvenient under the best of circumstances. We use proprietary estimating software that very few contractors can match. Our proposals are very detailed and transparent and provide you with line-item pricing, trade totals, and room totals, and are easy to value engineer where necessary to meet your budget expectations. We also have a trusted group of subcontractors who have been with us for many years and know what we expect from them. Our subcontractors are masters of their trade and not “jacks of all trades.” We will never have a painter build your cabinets or a carpenter wire your home. We believe in the concept that every craftsman that works on your project is well experienced in what they do and is among the best in their trade. In this manner, you get quality in every aspect of your project. All of our projects are managed by a principal of the company, and we are on the jobsite almost every day to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of work. Daily communication with our clients is a big part of what sets us apart from the rest. It is our job to make sure that you are involved in every detail of construction and that you can expect a finished product that exceeds your expectations.
